Experts from all over the world do not really believe that allowing FDI in Indian Aviation alone is enough for the industry to recover. Allowing foreign carriers to pick up 49% in domestic airlines may give them funds to run their day-to-day business, but the airlines may prove to be profitable.
A poll undertaken at the gathering of airline leaders in Beijing for the 68th annual general meeting of global airline body — International Air Transport Association (IATA) — revealed that in spite of the promise of growth in Indian aviation market, the policy change to allow 49% FDI will not be enough to attract much-needed funds. Airline CEOs' responses consisted of diluted 'ayes' while the 'wait and watch' approach dominated general sentiment, with occasional 'nays' too.
